Holy Flowers

Hi There!

Okay, here's a picture of my
in-progress Basket BOM
(Block Of the Month),
for November.

Okay.... promise not to LOL, pls?!?

I've never done yo-yo's before
and I couldn't figure out WHY
there were BIG "holes"
in the center of my flowers....

Till one of my friends,
from our "Basket Case" group
uploaded HER (perfect)
yo-yo's and said that you
have to make BIGGER stitches,
for TINIER holes.

Gee - that sounds weird,
when I write it that way.

LOL

Anyhow, right now, those flowers
are STITCHED onto my background
and I'm NOT removing them,
just to re-do them...

Any suggestions as to
HOW I can hide those "holes"?

Ruched Gifty!

Hi there!

This past week, I received the most INCREDIBLE gifty,
from a good friend.... you know who you are! *VBG*

She spoiled me ROTTEN -
but I certainly won't complain!
*still grinning*

Okay, you might all know that I belong
to a BOM (Block Of the Month),
called "Basket Cases", right?

November's BOM will be a block
with "Ruched Flowers".

Since I've never done this before,
I was eager to learn something new!

She had "Quilter's Fancy"
send me a bunch of "stuff",
to help me Ruche!

Here's a cardboard with several
"wired" ribbons...
not necessary to ruche with, but fun, nevertheless!

A "Pouncer" was included....
Once again, not necessary,
but fun to try out!

And, some LONG millner's needles, too!

Included in my package was some crinoline.

Now, my friend mentioned that it was easier
but not necessary to sew your ruched flower
onto crinoline and I just couldn't understand.

I remembered crinoline being the stuff
that's under fancy dresses and a bit "floppy"
or "soft", in texture.

THIS crinoline is starched!

Almost feels like a gridded "canvas".

(At any time, you can click on my pictures
and see a bigger picture.)

This is a close-up picture of it's "grid".

And my friend had requested that
the 2 "Ruching Edge" rulers
be included in my parcel!!!!

No, it's not necessary to have these,
but it sure is fun, though!

LOL

Cindy, at "Quilter's Fancy",
also included notes/instructions
on how to create 3-D leaves!!!
(click on picture to be able to read)

Well, it didn't take me long to
try out these new gadgets!

Here's my first ruched strip!

And although the colors aren't quite
the same, TRUST ME....

This is the flower that I created
from my ruched strip.

Now, it might not be perfect,
but I'll still be using it for
November's BOM....

And, in fact, as I write up this blog,
Sunday morning, I'm quite pleased to tell you
that I've since made up 3 ruched flowers,
attached them to some crinoline and
need to try out some 3-D leaves.

My basket and basket handle are
now appliqued on my background.

Can't wait to show my Basket Case group,
this gorgeous (IMHO) BOM!!!!

Later people!

October's BOM Baskets

Hi there!

This time, I decided to finish
the Basket BOM
(Block Of the Month)
ASAP...

This one is done in 30's fabrics
and I made a braided handle.

And this one, is done with
Civil War and Civil War "wannabee" fabrics.

I used "chenille" for the handle!

If you'd like to join up, in our
Basket BOM,
PLEASE send me an email
and I'll send you an invitation,
to our Yahoo Group.

July's Basket Block

Hi There!

I think I mentioned this on my blog, before,
but I've joined a Yahoo group, for "Basket Blocks".

It'll be a BOM (Block Of the Month),
starting in September but for now,
we're having fun playing around with (practice) blocks.

*grin*

The (practice) one that was designated for July
was a rather difficult Lilly Block.

I was getting rather discouraged because I had
difficulty with the instructions.
My friend, Diane, suggested that I start with the lily blocks - hand sewn -
and THEN, do the other blocks.

Well, that's what I did! Thanks Diane!!!

Above, is a picture of one of the lily blocks....

Now, the 2 pictures below are 2 screw-ups
or bloopers, if you wish,
of my LAST lily block!

I had HAND SEWN the LAST seam
onto the wrong side.

You know the feeling with you're as
proud as a peacock, lift up the block that you've been working on,
only to realize that there's been a MAJOR mistake?!?!?

Anyhow, yesterday afternoon (Saturday),
after we came back from garage sailing/sale'ing,
and it was raining in full force, by then,
I decided to finish this block!

GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I slightly remembered that the pattern said it was a
16 inch FINISHED block.....

But, that's HUGE!!!!!!!!!!

I've been sooooo used to working with
4.5 inch Dear Jane or Midget blocks,
that I had forgotten what 16 inches looked like!

LOL

At one point, I thought,
"Hey! This could even be my Medallion Block!!!"

Anyhow, when September rolls around,
who knows, eh?
Maybe the Basket Mistress will be dole'ing out these
"Fred Flintstone" sized blocks!

LOL

More BOM's - Blocks, Houses and Baskets!

Hi There!

Okay, I think I'm the Queen of Block Making...

I started a snowman quilt,
for one of my cousins....

But I DID warn her that I wasn't
the fastest needle in the West!

LOL

Anyhow, I managed to finish this block,
last month and didn't get a chance
to share a picture with you...

Here's this month's BOM
(Block Of the Month)....

Remember? The one that I'm doing,
with our local quilt store?

I'm still not crazy about the fabric,
but I certainly WON'T give it up! *grin*

And here's ANOTHER
BOM ... but with houses, this time.

It's a FREEBIE, on the net,
and I do wish she'd give us the choice
to make these houses in
paper piecing!

*long sigh*

Once again.... and what is WRONG with me??!?....

I'm not too, too crazy about these houses, anymore....
but I'll certainly stick with it, till the end. *s*

Now, as some of you might know,
I've signed up with a crazy bunch of people -
better known as "Basket Cases"!

LOL

We'll be starting up, seriously to make
"Basket" blocks, in September.

This one is made in 30's fabrics....

And this one was made with Civil War fabrics...

These are what we've been calling
"Practice" or "Fun" blocks....
and they're the block for the month of June.

Sooooooo.......

Even though I haven't put a quilt together in eons,
doesn't mean that I'm not busy.

*grin*

Busy being the

"Queen of Block Making"

LOL
