Lorenza's Quilt and Her Progress

Hi There!

Last Thursday, I went to my Quilt Guild's weekly gathering.  

Once a week, we meet and work on whatever project we wish.

I decided to bring "Lorenza's Quilt" letters to machine applique, 

which I usually find extremely boring .  

I have to admit, 

I found it much more fun to do with quilty friends!

Finally finished piecing the top, Friday!!!

Here's a close-up of her name.

 

 And, as I've mentioned before, if I have any "orphan" blocks, I will now be trying to incorporate them into the back of the quilt.... AND use up any "chunks" of fabrics that are color coordinated with the quilt top!

No more buying solid pieces of fabric for a back!

Gonna use up my stash!!!

Lorenza's Quilt

Hi There!

It feels like I've been either working on client's quilts or working on my 2 or 3 on-going projects and not getting anywhere.

Remember my self-imposed rule?

Do 2 or 3 UFOs and work on a new project.

Well, I'm currently working on an old BOM (Block Of the Month) and machine appliqueing flower blocks to go with it.  I'm also trying to finish off last year's BOM with "Hannah and Harrington". And both of these projects are slow moving.

Sooooo, yesterday afternoon and this afternoon, I needed to BREAK OUT and do something NEW!

A distant cousin and friend asked me to make a single bed quilt for her Mom, who has alzheimer.  

Her Mom loves the color "red".

My friend, Elly, recently posted one of her finished quilts and I was inspired by her blocks!

BTW, if you could go on the web site and VOTE for HER quilt, I'd truly appreciate it!

Tilde's Summer Scrap Challenge

Here's my progress, so far, on my Design Wall.

Tomorrow, I have to do a binding - both sides - for a client.  I probably won't have time to play with this one, unfortunately.

Aaaaaand, they're calling for a LOT of snow, tomorrow, too!

Here's a closeup of one of my blocks.  

I'm doing the 2 inch blocks with my scrappy reds and scrappy ivories and whites.

So, in a nutshell, on tomorrow's Agenda:

Laundry

Work on binding a quilt.

"La Easy Street"

Hi There!

Gilbert quilted "La Easy Street" -

Bonnie Hunter's latest Mystery Quilt.

Yes, I still need to bind it

but I was eager to

try it on our bed 

and take pics!

I had quite a few "orphan blocks" and big chunks of fabric leftover.

I decided to make the back, in pieces.

I'm quite proud of this back.

I "made do" rather than run to the 

fabric store for yet 

MORE fabric to make a quilt back.

Quilting Retreat = Heaven (or almost)

 Hi There!

Last Tuesday morning, Gilbert dropped me off at my very first - but not last - Quilting Retreat, organized by my Quilting Guild.

I was in a tizzy!

Which quilting project(s) should I bring? 

What to bring and not to bring 

and HOPEFULLY not forget anything!

Here's my room.  The bed was sooo comphy!

It was a bit hot, for me, in the entire building. 

NEXT time, I will bring some t-shirts!

 

There were 2 rooms that we used to quilt in.

This was the big room.

I was in the smaller room with Theresa...

And Thelma!

Two gals that I didn't know before but got to know them by the end of the retreat and TRULY enjoyed their company!!!

What would the food be like?

Our first lunch was squash soup and sandwiches.

It was DELICIOUS!!!

I hate to admit it, but I was going to miss my "Timmies".

The 2nd day, one of the ladies had to leave the Retreat and came back with a Timmies for me and Theresa!

How nice was that, eh?!??

Marilyn finished her adorable black, white and pink quilt and .... Gosh - can't remember her name but she finished a lovely blue tote!

That's about it!

I plan on going on NEXT year's Quilting Retreat...

God willing and budget permitting!

It was pure fun!!!

Snow Storm = Snow Man

Workin' on an (inspired) quilty Snow Man quilt block... A la Jim Shore.

Still gotta add some twiggy arms, embroidered eyes and mouth. Not sure.

What d'ya think, eh?

BTW, we're hunkering down to yet another major storm.

Each storm they've predicted, so far this year, has been the storm of the century.

And, to each one, we just sigh and carry on. What can you do, eh?

Snow means quilting for me.

"Quilting" starts, in earnest, tomorrow.

Today's Agenda

Hi There!

Got a busy Agenda, today!

Do laundry.

Start packing.

Run around like a chicken with it's head cut off!

(now I know how some of you feel...)

Worry about forgetting something.

"What's up?", you ask.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go to 

my first EVER Quilting Retreat!!!

I, of course, don't want to forget anything!

I hemmed and hawed about which project to bring along.  When at home, I usually throw stuff or blocks on my design wall, figure out where I'm going with a certain project... Sometimes, I go "shopping" in my own personal stash.  Most times, it truly is an intensive "throw-stuff-around-and-make-a-mess" kinda process.

And, I didn't want to bring TOO much "stuff"!  

But, on the other hand, 

I certainly didn't want to forget "stuff" either, right?

Sooooo, I finally limited myself to 3 projects.

1st Quilty Project

Bonnie Hunter's "Pineapple Crazy" blocks.

I have approx. 20 paper pieced pineapple blocks made and I need 224(?) blocks. I need to bring my bin of scraps and a bag of scraps that I've since started. I figure IF I ever run out of scraps, I'll surely be able to beg some from the other ladies or scrounge in their garbage bin!  Most of my required scraps require an inch or less of fabric!  *VBG*

I'll need her book, my pre-printed paper blocks - for paper piecing, my cutter, a small ruler and a small cutting board.  These blocks are... I think they're 6 inches(?). Can't remember.

2nd Quilty Project

My Fussy-Cut Hexagons.

This will be an evening, hand sewing project.

IF we're sitting around, just chatting.

I can work on these.

Got them prepped, in my small little bag.

All ready to go!

3rd Quilty Project

3 Dear Jane blocks.

I truly DO need to get these done.

Another evening project.

They need to be "needle turned",

as it is part of a class that I give.

(The teacher needs to teach by example, right?)

These too, are all prepped and ready to appliqué!

No, WAIT!

Wish me "fun", instead!!!

Should have a hoot 'n a half with these quilters!!!
