You Know There's An App For That?

Hi There!

I LOVE blogging and I LOVE to share pictures with you but this was becoming time consuming and pictures were loading up on my camera, waiting to be shared with you and .... well.... it was time consuming.

I had to plug my camera in my computer, open up the folder, select which picture I wanted, re-size it and SAVE it in the appropriate "blog" file.

Then, I had to open up Blogspot, type in my Blog - like I'm doing now - find the picture(s) and upload them.

*yawn*

I noticed that Bonnie Hunter was now doing what she calls her "i-Phone-O-grams". I mentioned this to Gilbert and he nonchalantly replied, "Well, you can do that too."

See, I have an iPhone that's not activated as a cell phone - don't really need a cell phone. I use it as an iTouch AND I can take pictures with this iPhone!!!

Go to your iTunes store and search for "Blogger". Its FREE, by the way. Download Blogger to your iPhone.

Now, the fun begins!

Click on your "Blogger" icon. Select the "pencil" down to the bottom left and take a picture and.. well... I'm positive you can figure it out.

Only problem? I think you can only upload 1 picture at a time.

See? Now you can blog on the go!

Have a great week!

Love Comes in Many Different Shapes...

Hi There!

You're probably wondering what I've been up to and why I've been so quiet.

Well, as my Blog title reads, I'm here to prove to you that love surely DOES come in many different shapes!

Last month, I was lucky enough to be able to order an HP TouchPad for $149 dollars. HP is getting rid of these tablets and instead of $599, they were on sale for peanuts!

Last week, I received my Touch!

That same evening, I HAD to run out and accessorize my new Touch!

I picked up what the friendly young geek tech at Staples called a "Fleatherette" case.

It protects my Touch...

But you can open it up, like a book and, stand it up on a table, as well.

And, it's got these neat squarish and soft bubbles....

You can rest the edge of the Touch amongst the bubbles and play with your Touch that way, as well!

Yes, it resembles the iPad, but was much, MUCH cheaper!!!

OH!!! And I've signed up with Kindle and have read TWO books, so far!

Can't remember the last time that I went to bed and read!

Have I been sewing much? Well, certainly not as much as pre-HP TouchPad, but I've been relaxing and enjoying myself. How's that for an answer?!??

LOL

And then, since I may take my Touch with me, I needed this cool little black bag with LOADS of pockets and a shoulder strap... for only 14 bucks!!!

I know it's silly but gosh DARN I feel so important with these nifty accessories!!!

Besides, the friendly young geek at Staples TOLD me it was a great buy!

LOL

As for my 2nd "love", my friend Barb Honey brought in her quilt for Gilbert and Bertha to work their magic.

OH MY GOD, but it's gorgeous!!!!

She gave me permission to blog about it, even!

When I asked her if she designed this quilt.... she simply replied with a "ROFL"...

Here's what she wrote:

"This was a homework assignment from the second year of the scrappy club I joined in Kelowna, B.C. We were given a type of Log Cabin setting and told to make a quilt. Mine was the courthouse steps setting. I just kept adding blocks as I went - no plan! The checkerboard border is from one of Bonnie Hunter's quilt in her book."

As spectacular as it looks on my blog, it looks a 100 times better in person!

I LOVE scrappy quilts!!!!

Hope you all have a Wonderful Wednesday!!!

Panto holder

Hi There!

Well, Gilbert finally finished his pantograph holder!

Here's a picture BEFORE the pantographs are in their slots....

And here's a picture with the pantographs that we have.

Oh, he told me to tell you all that there's 46 tubes or slots available.

And as Martha Stewart would say,
"And this is a good thing."

*grin*

Tech Talk

Hi there!

Well, I've had an iPod (iTouch)
for about a year now and
I absolutely ADORE
my iTouch!

Why, you ask?

1. EMAILS
I can read my emails anywhere and anytime (even in bed), while in the house. I can even read my emails when on a trip... but I DO need a (wireless) internet connection.

2. GAMES
I like to play "BeJeweled 2", in bed. I know it's silly but it helps me fall asleep! *grin*

3. SURF THE WEB
Well, the screen certainly isn't as big as a regular computer but when I need to, I'll go view web pages, when necessary.

4. LISTEN TO MUSIC
I'm not really a music junky, but when I want to listen to music, I plug in my iTouch with my latest earbuds, that I now, couldn't live without... (LOL) and listen to my favorite tunes and podcasts!

5. UTube Videos
When I'm bored, I listen to a few UTubes! Yep, I know! Doesn't take much to entertain me! LOL

And that's about it!

This mini machine is SOOOOO powerful, with a ca-zillion of free and not so free apps (applications) that can be uploaded to your iTouch, to help make your life easier or funner or simply to help you waste time. *grin*

Unfortunately for me - or is that "fortunately"? - I am happy with what I do with my iTouch! But, it's just to tell you that you have the power to do much more, SHOULD you wish...

(image from Roger Communications web page)

Well, Gilbert's been helping me to understand my iTouch and has been drooling over my machine. Yet, he didn't want to get one. He preferred to dream about getting an iPhone, without the "data" plan. When you purchase an iPhone outright, it becomes YOURS! And all's you need to do is put your (old) SIM card from your previous cell phone and all your info is transferred to your new iPhone.

Yesterday evening, he finally broke down and got one!!!

Why did he want an iPhone?

1. CELL PHONE
Gilbert's cell phone provider gave him a "Smart Phone". It's a Blackberry that you're unable to surf the web or retrieve your emails AND it's screen is miniscule ... as well as the keypad! We were calling it the "Stupid" phone! Plus, the iPhone is MUCH slimmer, too!

2. PDA
Gilbert has another gadget, a Hewlett Packard PDA (Portable Device Accessory?). Anyhow, he used this gadget for notes, calculator, address book, etc. etc. etc. And he knew that if he had an iPhone, all this info could be transferred to an iPhone and he wouldn't have to be walking around with THREE electronic devices - cellphone, his PDA and his camera (see item # 3)! And, once again, the iPhone is MUCH slimmer!!!

3. CAMERA
Once again, the iPhone has an INCREDIBLE camera and cam corder! He wouldn't have to bring his camera along!

3 - NEW TECHNOLOGY
As well, my hubby LOVES gadgets..... the newer, the better! Mind you, we also have our budget in the forefront, when we start to even consider purchasing another gadget!

4 - NO DATA PLAN
Our internet provider could have sold an iPhone to Gilbert, but with a "Data" plan. What does that mean? Well, it means that you would be able to surf the net, send text messages, receive emails, along with your cell phone (of course) for a whole BUNCH of money! Here in Canada, we're supposed to have the highest costs, for cell phone packages! Anyhow, Gilbert didn't WANT the Data Plan, as he can surf wireless, inside our home for free and he's never sent a text message and doesn't see the necessity for it. Neither do I, for that matter. *s*

Soooooo, as I wrote earlier, we went out
and bought "outright" an iPhone
and Gilbert's in 8th Heaven!
And I'm just estatic for him too!

*VBG*

Oh, BTW, I started my 2 week vacation
and will be doing my "Journal" thing, again.
If you want to follow my daily activities
and check out my not-written-in-pen Agenda,
you can follow me here:

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!!!!

Trojan War!

Hi there!

Okay, the hottest topic on 3 or 4 of my favorite chat forums, has been "Trojan Viruses". Quite a few of my friends got a REAL nasty virus. Some were able to repair it themselves, while others had to take it into their Geek Store. Either way, these nasty viruses are time consuming and/or money chompers... neither picture is very good.

There are SOOOO many variables and it's fairly frustrating. I'd LOVE to be able to help people with their problems, but....

Do you have a PC or an Apple?
What kind of anti-virus do you run?
Do you have a firewall?
What did you click on when the problem occurred?
And more more tech questions that I can't think of, right now.

And here's the all important question and suggestion...

Do you do a monthly backup? There's probably TONS of backup programs out there but "Acronis True Image" is THE best, IMHO!!!!

With Acronis, you do your backup, once a month. Computer crashes. Re-plug in your external hard drive. Recover your info. Info is recovered in approx. 15 minutes. ALL your settings, ALL your passwords, ALL your softwares, etc, etc, etc.... Even your files or pictures that your saved on your desktop.. are ALL STILL THERE! Your favorites are still intact!!!!

Now, I'm being a bit of a motor mouth, right now... but let me tell you what happened to Gilbert and I 'bout 3 years ago.

***********************************************

Our internet provider wrote TWO warning (English) emails, advising us that we had a virus. Tried to translate their emails (to French) to Gilbert but (yes he's a man) he didn't take them too seriously.

Perhaps 2 weeks later, we lost our internet services. Gilbert spent like 1 hour re-plugging modem, server, router and whatever hi-tech thingy that I can't remember right now and doing the "re-boot" thingy, too. BTW, we had forgotten about those 2 previous letters from our internet provider.

We finally called up our internet provider and they told us that we had a virus, that un-beknown to us, was forwarding thousands and thousands of emails, from our home!!!! We argued with them. IMPOSSIBLE!!! We had the "bought" version of Norton!!!

Nothing doing! They were NOT going to re-connect us until we got rid of this so-called virus or trojan virus or whatever it was.

Gilbert did a COMPLETE "Norton" scan on ALL our computers - nothing. Nada. Zippo.

At this point, we KNEW we didn't have a virus (as per Norton's results) but we couldn't make our internet provider believe us!

Finally, in desperation, I called up our local Geek Store and the guy laughed when I told him that what had happened. He said that McAfee and Norton were basically jokes. And since we had no internet, he downloaded a disk with "AVG" anti-virus on it.

Took his disk home, popped it in our computer and BAM! AVG found the offender! We were stunned - I mean, who has/had a better reputation than Norton, eh? Especially since we had actually PAID for this program!!!!

Well, AVG used to be free. We have since moved onto AVAST, as our anti-virus program.

AVAST is free... it's good.... One of my bosses has a friend who works at Norad - one of the computer geeks there, I guess. THEY use AVAST!

This nasty virus, that all my friends are chatting about, has come from Facebook and mostly Webshots. I've clicked on many webshot links, since this trojan thingy appeared and NO, I haven't had any problems! *knock on wood*

Anyhow, hope my 25 cents worth of ramblings helped you ... if you have a Trojan knockin' at yer door.... :-(

I'm All Cracked Up!

Hi There!

Remember the lovely book
that my friend Elaine sent to me?

"The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt"?

Well, I hadn't realized that there
was a CD in the back of this
SOFT covered book!!!!

Okay, before I continue, let me advise you that
I was born a blonde!

LOL

The Proof?

Here's a pic of me, with my parents.

Okay... back to my book...

Well, after bringing this book
into work with me,
to show my co-workers....
flipping through it,
many, MANY times,
Gilbert picked it up and
casually mentioned,
"Did you know there was a CD here?"

NO, I didn't realize!!!!

Anyhow, my story gets worst,
before it gets better.

Yesterday evening,
I decided that I would install my CD.
When I opened up the book,
I realized that the CD was split in the middle....
almost straight across, but not quite.

I asked Gilbert if he could re-align it
and maybe (keeping fingers crossed)
that it would work anyhow.

(silly me!!!!)

I put it in my computer CD slot and could hear the drive working,
when ALL OF A SUDDEN, I HEARD A LOUD
"POP"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I near jumped out of my skin!!!

The CD was all in pieces!!!!

Gilbert had to take my puter apart,
to dig out the small pieces!

Well, I called up their 1-800 number
this evening and the nice gal there,
PROMISED to send me another CD!!!

Imagine that, eh?!??!

And THANK GOODNESS, too!
'Cause I looked at the pictures
of the blocks in that book
and they measure 3-1/2 inches!!!!

Imagine making a quilt with
blocks THAT size, eh?!??!

*VBG*

Thank you Mrs. CD/Book lady!!!!

Appreciate the GREAT service!!!!

Computer Info - Deleting a Hard Drive

Hi There!

Just received a few good links, on how to DELETE your Hard Drive... Thought I'd share them with you. *s*

Now, in the past, I've blogged about how to SAVE your info, on your computer.

This info is for DELETING... PERMANENTLY you Hard Drive.... should you wish to give your computer away, or sell it... or whatever.

Hope this helps!

Microsoft - Clean the Hard Drive Before Dumping Your PC

I found this well written, great suggestions and, most importantly, easy to understand.

From CNet - PC Hardware: Erase Hard Drive Permanently on Widows XP OS
Another interesting chat forum, on this topic - and they too, give you a few suggestions or links for software.

RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) - PDF file
These people also have some interesting blah-blah to read and recommend a few sites, too.

Remember... this is info on how to DELETE your HD..... *grin*

Have a great weekend!

Mozilla Firefox

Hi there!

Last year, Gilbert switched from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox.
I didn't bother 'cause sometimes I don't care for "new" stuff. *s*

Anyhow, 6 months later, I was getting error pop-ups
and whatever crazy thing you can imagine, with IE.

So, Gilbert says, "Why don't you try Mozilla Firefox?
There's TONS of add-ons, too, that are fun."

So, I bit the bullet and switched over.
Some of you mentioned that you tried Mozilla Firefox and had problems with them.
If you write to me personally and describe WHAT EXACTLY happens,
maybe I can ask my personal Computer Tech (AKA Gilbert)
and can help you out. *s*

Every now and then, I have difficulty opening up a web page, with Mozilla Firefox.
Gilbert reminds me to try and open it up with IE...
I just copy the web link, go to my "programs",
open up IE and paste the addy, there....
And for some stupid reason, it works in IE!!!

But it's not enough of a bother to go back to Internet Explorer....

I LOVE Mozilla Firefox!

Anyhow, some of you also mentioned that you
didn't know where all these fantastic "add-ons" were....

Here's how you find them. A word of advice, though....

Carefully chose one, to start with. Play around with it.
If you don't care for it... DELETE IT!

I asked Gilbert if someone was crazy enough to add ALL the add-ons,
would their computer get slower.... He chuckled and said, YES.

If you decide to download Mozilla Firefox -
did I mention that it was FREE?!??....
or you already have it installed, here's where you find your "add ons":

At the top, click on TOOLS
Then, click on ADD-ONS
At the bottom, it says,
SEE ALL RECOMMENDED ADD-ONS.... click on that.

You can have fun browsing through these add-ons but as I mentioned,
I would download them wisely. *s*

Here's 3 that I wouldn't do without - you can do a "search" for these titles, BTW:

StumbleUpon

You get to select all your favorite subjects.
You can have it added to your tool bar, at the top.
You can have them send you a web site, per day...
or when you're bored, just click on the "Stumbleupon" icon
and browse web sites with YOUR pre-chosen websites.

Neat, eh? *grin*

Foxmarks BookMark Synchronizer

I have 2 computers that I use in my home. With this lovely "add-on",
ALL my favorites that I've bookmarked are
automatically synchronized on BOTH computers.

VERY handy add-on, IMHO.

And the last one that I absolutely recommend is what USED to be called, PicLens.
Apparently, it's now called

Cooliris

This add-on is sooooo cool, it's hard to describe.
So, I've taken a desktop snapshot of what it kinda looks like:

You almost feel like you're in a fancy smancy art galery,
when you're viewing images, on the web.

You can scroll across, from right to left.
You can zoom in on the image.
Or, you can click on the picture and to to the web page!

BTW, here's another trick that some of you might not know.

When you "Google" something, did you realize that you can
select "images"?

For example, if you're looking for "heart" patterns
and you've googled "quilt heart patterns" and then you're staring
at a bunch of web links.... you can also click on "images"
and you'll see RIGHT AWAY, what the "heart" pattern
looks like. *s*

Anyhow, that's it for now. Hope this blog helps you out!

DJ - Wall

Okay, in the past couple years, I've had a few people that have asked, "How did you do your DJ website, with the table??? And how can I do that???"

I will try and explain it as simply as possible.

You have 2 choices. You can make a DJ table and keep it on your own computer. It's simpler that way, but you really can't share it with others.... there is a way, and I'll explain that in a bit.

Your second choice is to make a DJ table and upload it to the net. On THIS blog, I'll explain how to create a DJ table, just for yourself. Later on, I'll explain in ANOTHER blog, how to UPLOAD it to the web and thus, be able to share with others.

Please keep in mind that I'm certainly NOT an expert as this. This is NOT my day time job and I've never taken courses on how to work with web pages and such. ALSO, there are a myriad of programs out there... that I DON'T know about, but I'll tell you which ones that I use. *s*

Okay, first create a folder .... either on your desktop or somewhere that you'll know and remember that that's where you've "saved" your DJ pictures and table.

Second, you need a program that can re-size your pictures. I use "LView Pro". I'm sure there are tons of them out there that can do this - you probably already have some kind of photo editing program that does this.

You will need to have TWO copies of your DJ block. One that is thumbnail size and one that is fairly big. Here are the measurements for your TWO DJ blocks:

Big:
Pixels - 450 X 450
Inches - 4.69" X 4.69"
cm - 11.91 cm X 11.91 cm

Small:
Pixels - 45 X 45
Inches - 0.47" X 0.47"
cm - 1.19 X 1.19

Don't forget to name your pictures, correctly. For example, for the DJ block A-1, I would name both pictures....
a-1
a-1s

The letter "s" tells me that it's the "small" picture.

Now, "save" both pictures in your DJ folder.

Now, go to Sharon Mastbrook's web page. She has valuable information on how to create a DJ web page...

In fact, now that I've re-visited her web page, her explanations seem to be 100% better than mine! LOL

Anyhow, go to her web page FIRST, before you listen to my jibber-jabbering and you should be okay to create yourself, a DJ table!

Good luck!

Rosa
P.S. Since her explanations are COMPLETE, in my opinion, I won't be creating another blog on how to make your DJ table appear, on the internet. *s*

Here's the link to my TWO DJ web pages:
