Hi There!

Gilbert quilted "La Easy Street" -

Bonnie Hunter's latest Mystery Quilt.

Yes, I still need to bind it

but I was eager to

try it on our bed 

and take pics!

I had quite a few "orphan blocks" and big chunks of fabric leftover.

I decided to make the back, in pieces.

I'm quite proud of this back.

I "made do" rather than run to the 

fabric store for yet 

MORE fabric to make a quilt back.

At the End of Easy Street - Almost...

 Hi There!

Yesterday, I finally finished this year's "Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt", called "Easy Street".

Well, just the quilt top... so far.

 

Gilbert and I had it on Bertha, our Gammill Longarm, for a photo shoot.

 It measures 98" - square.

And here's one where you can see the (scrappy) borders.

 

Because I HATE running out of pieced blocks, I usually make 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 ... or more pieces.  

Yes, I know. 

I'm a sucker for punishment!

AND, because I had pre-cut a whole bunch of triangles, pinned them on my design wall and when I needed them... I didn't SEE them... 

Sooooo, I went and cut a whole bunch more triangles!

*long sigh*

I ended up with a bunch of "Orphan" blocks, as well as a whole bunch of triangles and decided to use these, on the back of the quilt... 

A la Bonnie Hunter!!!

More extra pieces...

Today, at 4h30 p.m., I finally used up all of my Orphan blocks without having to cut too much more.

And HEY!

Here's something I gonna try, from now on.

I'm gonna make a set of pillow cases with left over fabrics.

Check!

Two gray pillow cases, with a 1 inch strip of lime green and gorgeous turquoise / sky blue polka dot fabrics.

Tomorrow, I plan on pulling out my big chunks of purples, turquoises and limes/apple greens and make a complete, solid back.

Will post a picture once the back is completed.

Step 8 - Blocks and Tris ALL Pieced!!!

 Hi There!

This afternoon, around 2 p.m., I think I literally "High Fived" myself!!!

For those of you out of the loop, I'm blogging about Bonnie Hunter's latest Mystery Quilt, called "Easy Street".

I finally finished piecing 4 small (corner) triangles, 16(?) outer edge triangles, 9 (star) blocks and 16 blocks. From a distance, the 16 blocks look like there's a circle in the middle, but its not a circle.

 See what I mean about that "circle" block?

And, when I'm piecing lots of pieces, I sometimes cut or make more than is actually required.

Hence, what I call my "Orphan Blocks". I will definitely be designing something for the back of my quilt with these Orphan Blocks.

PLUS, I screwed up royally on those green triangles!

Can you say Rosa's got HUGE memory problems and throw in loss of vision, as well?!??

Step 7 required that I use a LOT of limey green triangles, that I was SUPPOSED to have cut up in Step 3 or 4, right?  Well, I looked at my design wall and did one of my LONG theatrical sighs 'cause I had completely skipped that step!  Or so I thought.

:-(

Sooooo, I cut up the required limey green triangles and sewed up the 16 BIG triangles and did one of those Toyota jumps 'cause I had finished Step 7.

Yesterday, guess who decides to SHOW UP, on my design wall?!?!?

Those (previously cut up) limey green triangles from Step 3 or 4 that I "thought" I had skipped and did NOT see them.... AT ALL... on my design wall!!!

NOTE TO SELF:

Wake up and smell the coffee.

And try and stay alert!

Tomorrow, I start sewing these blocks and tris!!!

FINALLY... Step 7 Really and Truly Finished!!!

Don't ask how - I wouldn't be able to explain how I did this, but do these 2 triangle patterns look the same?!!?!

I thought that I had completed Step 7 but omitted to read and LOOK at Step 7 properly and SEE that I needed to make TWELVE of these outter edge triangles!!!

Anyhow, they're now done and I can move onto Step 8... The Final Frontier.

Yes, I'm somewhat of a Trekkie.

Step 7 - Tomorrow's THE Day!!!

Hi There!

Step 7 of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt was revealed today... Easy, easy, easy!

We were to put bricks and flying geese together and, piece together what I'm assuming are the 4 corners to this quilt.

Aaaaannnd.... She said that tomorrow's the big reveal!!!!! I think I'm actually twitching in my sewing chair with impatience!

This morning, I made 2 different kinds of bread. The house smells heavenly!

That's about it. We'll be watching TV, this evening, and ringing in the new year with sime good wine!

Friday's Agenda?

Hi There!

"What's on my Agenda, for today?", you ask. 

Well, I have to finish binding my "Christmas Dear Jane Swapped Blocks" table topper, bind our new "3A Quilting Banner", do Step 6 on Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt.  And did I mention that horrible word that starts with the letter "S"?!?!??!

Yup!

We'll probably be outside this afternoon.....

Shoveling!

Zelda, our 1 year old German Shepherd, sure loves the snow!  She wanted out 4 times, this morning and kept running round and round and round in our yard!

Gee... 

She must have gotten bored 'cause on her last "request" to go outside, she ran OUT of our yard and into the street - something she's NEVER done before and she KNOWS she's not allowed, ANYHOW!   

Aaaaaannnnd....  she's too afraid to do it, ANYHOW!!!

WTF?!??

I then had to get my boots on, winter coat, tuque and gloves, grab her leash and as I was heading down the side of the house, calling her name.... who decides to pop up??!?

The Princess herself!

*sigh*

And since I was out and all dressed, I decided to shovel out a bit of our deck.

And this was all before 6 a.m.!!!

Should be a fun day.

High Five Me, Please!

 Hi There!

I managed to finish Step 5 of Bonnie Hunter's new mystery quilt, called "Easy Street".

Just under the wire!

Here's a close-up of the blocks that I made, for Step 5.  I think they're called "Fat Hens".

And I had a surprise "bonus" last week.  My cousin gave me a big bag of fabric that belonged to her mother-in-law.... who's since passed away.  I found a panel of "labels" and GUESS WHAT!?!??!

I found TWO labels that are EXACTLY the colors that Bonnie recommends for her mystery quilt!!!

There's lime greens, turquoises and purples all around the edge. The only thing missing is the greys.

Sooooooo......

Today and Tomorrow's Agenda

Hi There!

Today, I worked on our "3 A Quilting" banner.  Its all finished and pieced together.  I just feel as if it needs a little Holly leaf or two... appliqued here and there.  We shall see.

And, I cut out the fabric for the 5th step to Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt.

Soooooo, tomorrow morning - Finish the banner.

Afterwards, piece the fifth step to Bonnie's mystery quilt.

We're also expecting a nasty snow storm, starting tomorrow.  I believe it's our first real one....

20 cm or so of snow, turning into rain/snow and ice pellets Thursday night into Friday morning.

And in case you didn't know, 20 cm is 8 inches (approx.) and rain/show and ice pellets AFTER 8 inches of snow is MURDER on your back!!!

Let's hope it ALL melts before we need to go out for grocery!  *keeping fingers crossed*

Bonnie's Mystery Quilt - Part 3

Part 3 came out yesterday morning - Friday and, tonight - Saturday - I can tell you that Part 3 is finished!!!

Her Mystery Quilt is called "Easy Street" and it truly IS Easy!!!

Off to work on sumtin' else.

Early to Rise

Hi There!

Was wide awake, in bed, around 4ish.

By 4h53, I had enough!

Besides, payback's a bitch - I ENJOY waking up our German Shepherd, Zelda, instead of the other way around. LOL!!!

Soooo, came downstairs and finished cutting the pieces to this week's Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. Will be sewing them together, this morning.

Bonnie's Mystery Quilt - Part 2

Part 2 came out Friday morning and its now Sunday, 3h30 pm and I have my 128 flying geese (plus a few extra, just in case) and 64 rectangles cut, for a future step... Bonnie said we could do it so I'm blindly following her, once again...

Busy Sunday

Hi there!

Well, I'm up to date with Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt - Step 1.

And here's my progress report on my Mini Twister.

Top row is all sewn and now measures 10-1/2 inches.

2nd section are blocks that were cut with the mini twister tool but aren't sewn in a row, yet.

3rd section - down below - is the left over section that needs to be cut.

And, guess what??? It's now 2h30 and I've managed to avoid doing the dishes!!!
