"Chunkette" Contest!!!!

Hi There!

These past few weeks, I've been playing with my Civil War (and wannabee CW) fabrics and I ended up with a few "Chunkettes".

What's a "Chunkette"? you ask....

Well, it's a piece of fabric about 5" X 5" (at least). Could be more - I'm just guessing that the minimum size would be 5 inch square.

This blog contest would be ideal for anyone HAND PIECING a Dear Jane or Dear Hannah, or any other kind of small blocks or blocks with appliques, like perhaps a Baltimore quilts.

Sooooo, it you need or would like some Civil War "Chunkettes" (mostly browns) and you're HAND PIECING or applique'ing and require an assortment of CW fabrics..... this is the contest for YOU!!!

Just enter a comment... make sure you either leave me your email addy or that I can reach you via your blog comment. Anonymous posters? Well, you know - I can't really write back to you, if you win, right? *grin*

I hope to post a picture of these "Chunkettes", in a day or two. Contest ends 9 June, 2010... That's Wednesday at midnight. Thursday evening, I'll draw a name and Friday, 10 or so "Chunkettes" will be mailed out. Oh... and I don't mind mailing out Internationally, either!

UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
PICTURE UPLOADED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Note: By the time I'm finished, I might add more to this pile - who knows, eh?)

Good luck!

Rosa

This is the first time I've heard a word like chunkette. A funny word :) When it comes to hand piecing I do that a lot. Mostly Baltimore Album blocks lately, but I did my first DearJane quilt all by hand. Even the quilting:)Why don't you have a look at my blog?

Hello Rosa, I've been collecting Civil War fabrics for my DJ for the last few years (not always easy to find here in Ontario). I haven't started yet (trying to exercise a wee bit of self discipline and finish my Affairs of the Heart before I start something new) - I have the software, rulers etc. and plan to hand piece both DJ and DH along with QD. I would love some of your chunkettes for both DJ and DH.

Hello Rosa,

Love your blog - and I'd love to enter your CW chunkette contest. I'm doing my Jane in 1800's reproductions so they'd be right up my alley. And yes, I'm behind on my triangle this week - again!

What an interesting way to connect to the quilters on the list. I'm doing my Jane in CW fabrics and am trying not to repeat any fabric.

Hey Rosa, "Chunkette" is a great term for them. I am handpiecing a lot lately, more than machine piecing actually. My favorites are CW and CW-like fabrics. Promise I'll give 'em a good home!

Hi I am excited to see your blog. After many years of say never , ever, no never. will I make a Dear Jane. I am , Where I live in Tasmania Australia, we have only a few quilt shops and even fewer, Civil War fabrics, so some Chunkettes would be wonderful . I never thought making a DJ would be so much fun jenikift@hotmail.com
Also never knew so many folks made DJ. what a great tribute to her!

Hi Rosa,
I'd LOVE to be the recipient of your chunkettes, so I'm very hopeful. They would be so special because they would have come from someone I've enjoyed meeting and chatting wtih via the DJ group. I'm currently doing Purple Jane and I'm really anxious to start my Civil War Jane, both by hand piecing. I've already started collecting CW pieces, but I want to have every block a unique fabric, so I have a ways to go, for sure!!!

Glad I found out about your blog. We've exchanged a few emails, but I hadn't known about your blog.

Rosa,
Love your idea!! I am hand piecing a DJ and love to hear from others doing the same. I too am using CW and CW wannabes with Benartex Tried and True (mottled-look cream) as my background. Just bought the Farmer's Wife book to inspire a small block wall-hanging quilt. Can't ever have too much fabric. Would love some of yours to incorporate into my projects! Please include me in your contest!!!

Hello Rosa ! Glad to see your idea on a contest for chunkettes ! I was always wondering what to do with the extra pieces of a more modern quilt top I had made. I wonder if the singular of chunkette, could be be "chunkee" ? Most of our local fabric shops have closed, so our variety of CW fabric in rural Tenn is limited, but I keep piecing on !
Thanks for the inspiration !
